Preparation, design and development

When various digital health technologies are developed in support of components of TB programmes, it is important to validate the appropriateness of these technologies. National authorities might face challenges to track the many different digital initiatives mounted to improve TB prevention and care efforts, potentially missing out on opportunities for collaboration and risking the under-use or wasteful parallel development of tools with a similar purpose.

Successful implementation of innovations requires due consideration of the large context of the health system and patient population in which they will operate

One of the early lessons learned in rolling out new technologies was that a comprehensive delivery system needs to be considered, just as effective health care requires understanding and addressing the needs of patients in a holistic manner.

We recommend that preparation, design and development of digital health interventions (like the implementation of digital adherence technologies) should follow at least the different steps laid out in the section of the implementation toolkit. Only then implementers are able to take a holistic approach that integrates digital technologies in different processes of health care.

Key steps of the DAT implementation pathway

Assessing the (digital health) landscape

This is a step-wise approach to conduct a digital health assessment to place the patient at the center of digital health leading to a feasible approach to support quality care and enable data driven decision-making.

In this chapter, you identify and prioritize adaptations to adherence platform to enable necessary improvements to support roll out.

In this chapter, you understand what configurations are important for the DAT to work successfully in your country.
